Chapter 3. Use the secure hard drive

This chapter provides information about how to use the secure hard drive.

Set up the administrator password

Set up an administrator password before using the secure hard drive. To set up the administrator password,
do the following:
1. Connect the secure hard drive to your computer. See "Install the secure hard drive" on page 3 for more
information.
2. Press
+9 and the indicator blinks slowly in green.
3. Set up an administrator password and press
blinks fast in green and then blinks slowly in green. If not, it blinks in red.
Note: The administrator password should be 8 to 16 digits. It cannot be repeating or sequential digits,
such as 87654321 or 11111111.
4. Confirm your administrator password and press
second and then is solid on in blue. If not, it blinks in red and then blinks slowly in green. In this case, set
up the administrator password again.
5. Press
to exit the administrator mode. If no action is performed within 30 seconds, the secure hard
drive is locked and the indicator is on in red.
To access the secure hard drive, do the following:
1. When the indicator is in red, input the administrator password you set up and press
2. Double-click the secure hard drive icon on your computer and then you can access it.

Enter and exit the working modes

This section provides information about how to enter and exit standby mode, administrator mode, and user
mode of the secure hard drive.

Enter standby mode

Standby mode is the default working mode of the secure hard drive. In this mode, the secure hard drive is
locked; therefore, it cannot be recognized by the operating system. However, standby mode enables you to
enter and switch between administrator mode and user mode.
To enter standby mode, connect the secure hard drive to your computer. When the indicator turns red, it
indicates that the secure hard drive goes into standby mode. For more information about how to connect the
secure hard drive, refer to "Install the secure hard drive" on page 3.
Note: To switch between administrator mode and user mode, you are required to firstly switch to standby
mode, and then you can enter your desired mode.

Enter administrator mode

In administrator mode, you can perform many administrative operations, such as changing the administrator
password, creating up to four user passwords, deleting all user passwords, and setting the auto-lock
function. The secure hard drive is locked in this mode; therefore, it cannot be recognized by the operating
system.
