Installation

the

Reflector
After
the Optical
Square
and the Interferometer
have
been installed and
aligned
yo
u will
use
the
Laser beam to
position
the
Reflector.
3.
Final Adjustments
You will
use
a special
technique to
adjust th
e
Reflector to
bring
th
e beams
back to
the
l aser
Head
and
prov
id
e
suffici
ent
beam
strength
.

Attach
fhe Opti

Square to
its
Mount
(See
Figure
12-
4)
and

nt it on
its
side so
its
slot

are
parallel
to
the machine's
tabl
e.

Identify
the axes
you
are going to measure
to
make
your Sq uareness
measurcmenl. Identify
which
axis
will
be your
first measurement
ax is
and whi ch will be
yo
ur
seco
nd.
Try
to
ma ximi
ze
travel paths
for
each
ax is.
(The Optical
Square is
fairly large and will
short en
theaxis it is used
to
measure.
)

Pos
ition
the Optical
Square
at the
apex
of
your square
with
each of its slo ts
facing
one
measurement
ax
is.
This
should
be out
in
front
or
to
the
side o
f th
e
machin
e si
n
ce
your
seco
nd
measurement will
be made
w
ith out the
Optical
Sq
uare
and will
require
a
strai ght
line from
th
e
laser
Head
,
th
rough
the Interferomet
er, an
d
into the
Reflecto r.

Attach
the
Strai
ghtness
I
nterferometer
to
its
mounting
hardware (see
Figure
10-3),
and
to
the
machine
's
spindle,
by
-
attaching
the Height
Adjuster
to a Post as
you
would
for
table
mo
untin
g,
or
scre win
g
its base
directly
into the post,
or
-
screwin
g
the
Post
into the
Height Adjuster
after
remov
in
g
th
e large
knu
rl
ed
kn
ob.
This
la11er arrangement may
mak
e
it easier
to change
to
Distance
and
Angular
Optics.
