    By eliminating these cables, the costs of maintenance and lost production due to misfires are reduced. Like its predecessors, the BlastPED III system is designed with safety as the prime criteria. It introduces additional layers of safety and improved design, while maintaining the simplicity of use, and backwards compatibility with existing BlastPED models.

    The BlastPED exploder must be reset (key turned to SAFE, then to ON) before another firing output can be produced. Ensure that the BlastPED III unit is safely stored and recharged in preparation for next use. NOTE: Refer to Section 6: BlastPED III Maintenance and Service for more information.

    PED messages; ARM and BLAST. These messages will take a minimum of two minutes each to transmit. The state of the BlastPED III unit is defined as its ability to receive one of these two messages. Feedback on which state the unit is in is provided on the face panel.

    BlastPED III Operator Manual Ohmmeter When a BlastPED III has its Safety Switch turned to the ON position and has passed all internal checks, an Ohmmeter will display the line resistance at the output terminals. BlastPED III is designed to fire a series circuit up to 75 Ohms. Circuit resistance exceeding 75 Ohms may result in a misfire.

    If the SERVICE LED is solid, then the unit has detected a hardware error and must be Tagged Out. A BlastPED III unit with a solid SERVICE LED will not operate until it has been serviced by a Mine Site Technologies technician.
  • Page 16 BlastPED III Operator Manual The circuit must be a pure (simple) series circuit. The use of Parallel, Series-in-Parallel, or Parallel-in-Series can result in a misfire. Using a series circuit is relatively straight forward with a single face, but if firing two or more faces from one BlastPED then care must be taken to ensure all the faces are wired in a simple series circuit.

    BlastPED III Operator Manual Sending BlastPED III Messages Creating the ARM and BLAST commands is done using PEDcall for Windows Version 6 or later. Please refer to the PEDcall documentation and help files for more information including software setup. The Blasting Message Panel BlastPED commands are accessed from a dedicated blast message panel.

    BlastPED III Operator Manual Message Priority All blasting messages take priority over any other PED messages except other blasting messages. Blasting messages cannot be moved up or down in the Message Queue, they are sent in the order created. Deleting Messages Blasting messages can be deleted from the Message Queue the same way normal messages are.

    Part of the code to create an ARM and BLAST command is provided on removable storage media that can be secured to prevent accidental or unauthorized blasting message creation. Appropriate codes are included with each BlastPED III delivered. Contact Mine Site Technologies for more information on how to obtain replacements.
  • Page 20 BlastPED III Operator Manual At the Security Request prompt, connect or insert the Security Media to one of the configured locations as requested. The Security Media must be present in exactly one of the configured locations. If a duplicate is found, it will be rejected.

    BlastPED III Operator Manual BlastPED III Maintenance BlastPED III is designed for use in mining environments, but effort must be made to treat the unit with an appropriate level of care. It is responsible for initiating explosives; improper use and handling will compromise safety and productivity.
