    If you received your Sprint PCS Phone purchased it at a Sprint PCS Center, your phone may already be activated. If so, it simply needs to be unlocked before you begin using it (see “How to unlock your phone.” on page 3). This guide will introduce you to our technology and your new Sprint PCS Phone through easy-to-follow instructions.

A credit check will be run. Your Sprint PCS Phone will be ready for use about an hour after this call is finished.

    Active Flip: Just open the flip to answer an incoming call, and close the flip to end the call. The flip also contains the speaker. You can also: Initiate a Voice-Activated Dialing call by opening the flip when you set this option in the Main Menu.

  • Page 24 When you’re ready to turn your phone on, fully extend the antenna for best reception. Press and hold until the LED comes on and the phone beeps. When the phone has found a signal, the icon appears. Once the phone is on, it enters Standby mode, which is the phone’s idle state.

While this feature is active, the phone’s battery charge is conserved. The phone will automatically recheck for a signal periodically.

    To place a call: 1. Press and hold Phone. If you see indicators on the display, this indicates your phone is on. Note that you will not hear a dial tone. 2. Enter the phone number (up to 32 digits) by pressing the digit keys.

You will experience the same security and privacy risks (eavesdropping and cloning) that exist with conventional analog cellular services today. Battery life will be shorter when you use your phone for cellular roaming than when you use it on a CDMA network.

Using the Voice-Activated Dialing option requires that you first train the phone to recognize the name of the person you are calling.

    Programming your Sprint PCS phone for Voice-Activated Dialing is easy. The phone provides voice prompts and screen displays to guide you through the recording process. To program the phone for Voice-Activated Dialing: 1. Press to display the Main Menu. 2. Press for Voice Dial.
  • Page 54 Voice dialing is always active once you have programmed the phone to accept voice dialing entries. To place voice dialing calls, press and hold name into the phone after you hear the voice prompt and the beep. You can also initiate a voice dialing call by opening the flip, when you select this option through the Main Menu.

    Your phone provides the option of four-digit dialing of numbers stored in the Internal Phone Book. This allows you to enter any four consecutive digits of someone’s phone number, have your phone remember the rest, and then dial it for you. To place a call using four-digit dialing: 1.

    Your Sprint PCS Phone provides many security options, including a user-programmable lock code and call restriction features. To access the Security menu in Standby mode, press , and then enter the four-digit lock code (normally the lock code is the last four digits of your Sprint PCS Phone number).
