ADJUSTING THE DRIVE CHAIN SLACK

NOTE:
The drive chain slack must be checked at the
tightest point on the chain.

CAUTION:
A drive chain that is too tight will overload
the engine and other vital parts, and one that
is too loose can skip and damage the swing-
arm or cause an accident. Therefore, keep
the drive chain slack within the specified lim-
its.
1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.

WARNING
Securely support the vehicle so that there is
no danger of it falling over.
NOTE:
Place the vehicle on a suitable stand so that the
rear wheel is elevated.
2. Spin the rear wheel several times and find
the tightest position of drive chain.
3. Check:
Drive chain slack "a"
Out of specification → Adjust.
Drive chain slack
40.0–45.0 mm (1.57–1.77 in)
NOTE:
Measure the drive chain "1" slack at the point
that drive chain touch to the seal guard "2".

a. Loosen the wheel axle nut "1".
b. Turn the drive chain adjusting plate "2" in di-

Drive chain is tightened.

Drive chain is loosened.
NOTE:
To maintain the proper wheel alignment, adjust
both sides evenly.
c. Tighten the wheel axle nut.

CAUTION:
Do not loosen the wheel axle nut after tight-
ening it to the specified torque. If the groove
in the wheel axle nut is not aligned with the
cotter pin hole in the wheel axle, tighten the
nut further until they are aligned.
