7.3 Earmuff Mode

The voice pick-up for outgoing radio communication is automatically adjusted depending on the surrounding noise
environment. If you are wearing earmuffs, this feature may not work as intended as the noise level at the outer micro-
phone is attenuated by the earmuff. To improve voice pick-up in this scenario, enter the menu and select "Advanced
System Setup" – "Earmuff Mode Options" and choose "Earmuff Mode On". The setting will be kept even if you
restart the control unit. You must enter the menu and choose "Earmuff Mode Off" if you work without earmuffs and
want to benefit from automatically noise adjusted outgoing radio communication.
TIP
When using earmuffs on top of a QUIETPRO headset, the outgoing communication
quality can be improved by setting the hear-through level to minimum.

8 Fit Test

QUIETPRO uses a test to verify that the eartips are fitted properly in each ear and that a minimum acceptable level
of attenuation is achieved. The fit test is automatically run when starting up the unit. It is also possible to initiate
a fit test during use. Enter the menu and go to "Fit Test". Press [CONFIRM] to start the test. To ensure that the fit
test works optimal, the startup and manual fit test should be run in an environment with low or moderate ambient
noise. The user should also avoid speaking during the startup and manual fit test.
TIP
Hot-key for fit testing – double click [CONFIRM] during normal use.
If the test is successful, the system will return to normal use mode. No particular notification is given, but you
will typically notice that the hear-through is activated such that normal hearing is restored.
If the system detects an error, a voice warning will be presented ("poor fit left ear", "poor fit right ear", or "poor
fit both ears") followed by a warning signal. If the fit test failed only for one ear, the warning signal will be heard
in the other. The warning can be acknowledged by double clicking [CONFIRM]. This will silence the alarm but
does not improve the fit. In order to ensure your hearing is protected, remove and refit the eartip(s) and restart
the system to perform a new fit test. Refer to section 2.3 for fitting instructions. ANR is disabled if the fit test fails.
! CAUTION If the fit test fails, the attenuation level cannot be guaranteed, and the user is at a greater risk
for hearing damage. To avoid this you have to improve the insertion of the eartip(s) and re-run
the fit test.
! CAUTION A user initiated fit test does not enable ANR functionality. The unit needs to be restarted and a
successful start-up sequence performed to enable ANR.
