Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guide- lines when you use earphones or head- phones.

Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. • Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.

This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some earphones and head- phones are designed to let you hear some out- side sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard.

    OFF/ON Changing the AM Band Step-Rate Your radio’s AM band is preset to tune in 10 KHz increments — the standard step-rate for radio frequencies in the United States. If you travel to other countries where the step-rate is 9 KHz (Europe, for example), you can set your radio to tune in that increment.
