Troubleshooting

This receiver has been manufactured to the specifications of RadioShack and is covered by a limited warranty from RadioShack. If your receiv-
er is not operating as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store or call 1-800-THE-SHACK for assistance.
Incorrect operation is often mistaken for trouble and malfunctions. If you think that there is something wrong with this component, check the
points below. Sometimes the trouble may lie in another component. Investigate the other components and electrical appliances being used.
Symptom
No power.
The power is on, but the DVD player
does not work.
No picture.
The playback picture is poor.
The DVD player does not start play-
back.
The remote control does not work
properly.
The receiver does not respond when
the buttons are pressed.
No sound is output when a function
is selected.
No image is output when a function
is selected.
Considerable noise in radio broad-
casts.
Broadcast stations cannot be
selected automatically.
The display is dark or off.
Cause
The power cord is disconnected.
No disc is inserted.
The TV is not set to receive DVD signal output.
The video cable is not connected securely.
The connected TV power is turned off.
The disc is dirty.
No disc is inserted.
An unplayable disc is inserted.
The disc is placed upside down.
The disc is not placed within the guide.
The disc is dirty.
A menu is on the TV screen.
The rating level is set.
The remote control is not pointed at the remote
sensor of the unit.
The remote control is too far from the unit.
There is an obstacle in the path of the remote
control and the DVD player.
The remote's batteries are exhausted.
Static electricity caused by dry air.
Improper connections
Sound is muted.
The volume is turned down.
Improper connections.
The input source is not properly selected.
Incorrect frequency.
The antenna is not connected.
ΠRF (AC-3) and/ or digital cables are near the
antenna terminals and wires.
(For FM) The FM antennais not fully extended
or is poorly positioned.
(For FM) The signal is weak.
(For AM) The AM antenna is poorly positioned.
(For AM) The signal is weak.
Interference caused by other equipment (for
example, flourescent lights, motors).
The signals are weak.
The dimmer is on.
Plug the power cord into the wall outlet securely.
Insert a disc. (Check that the DVD or audio CD indicator in the DVD
display is lit.)
Select the appropriate video input mode on the TV so the picture
from the DVD player appears on the TV screen.
Connect the video cable into the jacks securely.
Turn on the TV.
Clean the disc.
Insert a disc. (Check that the DVD or audio CD indicator in the DVD
display is lit.)
Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type, color system and
regional code.)
Place the disc with the playback side down.
Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the guide.
Clean the disc.
Press SETUP to turn off the menu screen.
Cancel the rating function or change the rating level.
Point the remote control at the remote sensor of the unit.
Operate the remote control within about 23 ft (7 m).
Remove the obstacle.
Replace the batteries with new ones.
Disconnect the power plug from the outlet, and insert again.
Make sure the component is connected correctly.
Press the remote's MUTE.
Adjust VOLUME.
Make sure the component is connected correctly.
Press the correct function button.
Tune in the correct frequency.
Connect the antenna.
Route ΠRF (AC-3) and digital cables away from the antenna termi-
nals and wires.
Fully extend the FM wire antenna, position for best reception, and
secure to a wall.
Connect an outdoor FM antenna.
Adjust the direction and position for best reception.
Connect an additional internal or external AM antenna.
Turn off the equipment causing the noise or move it away from the
receiver.
Place the antenna farther away from the equipment causing the
noise.
Connect an outdoor antenna.
Press DIMMER repeatedly to return to the default setting.
