TROUBLESHOOTING
The starter motor fails to turn.
TIP
• Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s):
1. Passenger seat
2. Center cover
3. Rider seat
4. Side covers
5. Fuel tank
6. Air filter case
7. Throttle bodies
1. Check the fuses.
(Ignition, backup, and main)
Refer to "CHECKING THE FUS-
ES" on page 8-81.

2. Check the battery.
Refer to "CHECKING AND
CHARGING THE BATTERY" on
page 8-82.

3. Check the starter motor operation.
Refer to "CHECKING THE START-
ER MOTOR OPERATION" on page
8-90.
NG ↓
4. Check the starter motor.
Refer to "CHECKING THE START-
ER MOTOR" on page 5-47.
OK ↓
5. Check the starting circuit cut-off re-
lay.
Refer to "CHECKING THE RE-
LAYS" on page 8-85.

6. Check the starter relay.
Refer to "CHECKING THE RE-
LAYS" on page 8-85.
OK ↓
7. Check the diodes. (Diode 1, 2, 3,
and 4)
Refer to "CHECKING THE DI-
ODES" on page 8-86.

ELECTRIC STARTING SYSTEM

Replace the fuse(s).
NG →
• Clean the battery terminals.
• Recharge or replace the battery.
OK →
Starter motor is OK. Perform the electric
starting system troubleshooting, starting
with step 5.
NG →
Repair or replace the starter motor.
NG →
Replace the starting circuit cut-off relay.
NG →
Replace the starter relay.
NG →
Replace the diode(s).
