    Your new tractor has been assembled at the factory with exception ofthose parts left unassembled forshipping purposes. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to insure proper tightness. TOOLS REQUIRED FOR ASSEMBLY A socket wrench set will make assembly easier.

    KNOW YOUR TRACTOR READ THIS OWNER'S MANUAL Compare the illustrations with your tractor tofamiliarize yourself with the locations of various controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference.   • Page 11 HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR (See Fig. 6) TO SET PARKING BRAKE Your tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing switch. When engine is running, any attempt by the operator to leave the seat without first setting the parking brake will shut off the engine.

    TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS (See Fig. 7) Gauge wheels are properly adjusted when they are slightly offthe groundwhen mower is at the desired cutting height in operating position. Gauge wheels then keep the deck in proper position to help prevent scalping in most terrain conditions.
  • Page 13 BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE CHECK ENGINE oIL LEVEL • The engine in you r tractor has been shipped, from the factory, already filled with summer weight oil. • Check engine oilwith tractor on level ground. • Remove oil fill cap/dipstick and wipe clean, reinsert the dipstick and screw cap tight, wait for a few seconds, remove and read oil level.

    • Disengage transmission byplacing freewheel controlin freewheeling position (See "TO TRANSPORT" in this section of manual). • Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine. After the engine is running, move throttle control to slow position. With motion control lever in neutral (N) position, slowly disengage clutch/brake pedal.

BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be adjusted. (See "TO ADJ UST BRAKE" inthe Service and Adjustments section of this manual).

  • Page 21 SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO ADJUST BRAKE (See Fig. 23) Your tractor is equipped with an adjustable brake system which is mounted on the side of the transaxle. Iftractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear on a level dry concrete or paved surface, then brake must be adjusted.

FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAMBER The frontwheel toe-in and camber are not adjustable on your tractor.
