8 How to Test the TPPR System

8.1 Introduction

The TPPR system has the following test modes, which together enable a comprehensive test of the system:

LED Panel Test – tests that all of the panel LEDs are working.

Field Inputs Test – tests all input channel devices without affecting any outputs. Gas test, force mA, confirmation of
correct device connection etc.

Configuration Settings Test – forces the TPPR input channels to specific levels and shows the corresponding
states, threshold alarm levels, over-range, warning/fault etc.

Cause and Effect Test (carried out from the output channel menu) – forces the TPPR input channels to specific
states to test that the correct output channels are activated.

Panel Button Test – tests that the panel buttons are working
9.
System Relay Test – tests that the System Failure relay and System Fault relays are working
10. LCD Screen Test – provides a visual check of the LCD screen
Note: It is recommended that the audio / visual functionality of the system (test modes 1, 5 and 7) are tested annually. Test
modes 2, 3 and 4 should be run as a part of commissioning or after any modification to the system which changes the
system setup.
It is recommended that the system relays (test mode 6) and the Relay Output Module (Force) relays are tested at least every
five years.
While in test mode, the TPPR is not operational as a safety system and any field device inputs may be ignored. The
System Fault relay may open and the System Failure relay will remain in the current state. Always put alternative

When a test mode is active the System Fault relay will normally open and a Test Mode Fault will be shown as an Active
Event on the User Interface, which cannot be reset. The exceptions are the LED Panel Test and LCD screen, which do not
indicate a fault.
Once a test mode is active, the system will remain in test mode until the test is exited. The only exception is in the case of a
power cycle of the TPPR, when it will restart in normal mode.
Note: After 20 minutes of inactivity the system will logout and return to the System Status screen. However it is still running
in test mode and you will need to login to complete the tests.
The optional PC Configuration Software cannot be used while a test mode is active.
All events generated while the system is in test mode will be logged in the event history. Therefore a test record can be
generated once testing is completed (see Ch. 7.6 How to Print Active Events).
