Porter-Cable strongly recommends that this tool NOT be modified and/or used for any application other than for which it was designed. If you have any questions relative to its application DO NOT use the tool until you have written Porter- Cable and we have advised you.

    892459 - 11-30-00.QXD 2/25/02 DRESS PROPERLY. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Loose clothing, draw strings and jewelry can be caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair. USE SAFETY GLASSES.

    RATED SPEED EXCEEDS THAT INDICATED ON THE TOOL SPECIFICATION PLATE. DO NOT install a grinding wheel on a sander or polisher. Grinding wheels are hazardous if used without proper guarding. USE PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT. Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes and wear a protective mask to minimize breathing in the fine dust created while sanding.

    MOTOR Many Porter-Cable tools will operate on either D.C., or single phase 25 to 60 cycle A.C. current and voltage within plus or minus 5 percent of that shown on the specification plate on the tool. Several models, however, are designed for A.C.

    892459 - 11-30-00.QXD 2/25/02 THE BASIC MACHINES AUXILIARY HANDLE An Auxiliary Handle is supplied with this tool and can be mounted on either side of the gear housing. This handle should be used to give complete control of the machine. Assemble handle to machine as follows: CAUTION: DISCONNECT TOOL FROM POWER SOURCE.

    Fig. 5 THE DISC SANDER TO INSTALL SANDING DISC The Porter-Cable sander has a wrenchless type backup pad and locknut. No wrenches are required to install or remove sanding disc. CAUTION: DISCONNECT TOOL FROM POWER SOURCE. Depress spindle lock pin (see Fig. 6) and rotate back-up pad clockwise onto spindle until it seats.
  • Page 9 Move sander in long sweeping overlapping strokes as you go back and forth. Do not move sander in a circular motion or stay in one spot too long as this will produce swirls and an uneven finish. The weight of the sander applies sufficient pressure for fast stock removal.
  • Page 10 892459 - 11-30-00.QXD 2/25/02 TO REMOVE: DISCONNECT TOOL FROM POWER SOURCE, grasp edge of the buffing pad (or compounding pad) and “peel” away from back- up pad, engage spindle lock pin and rotate back-up pad counterclockwise to remove. USING POLISHER If item to be polished is light enough to be moved by the rotating polishing pad, it should be securely anchored to prevent possible bodily injury.

    BRUSH INSPECTION AND LUBRICATION At approximately 100 hours of use, take or send your tool to your nearest Authorized Porter-Cable Service Station to be thoroughly cleaned and inspected; worn parts replaced, when necessary; relubricated with fresh lubricant, if required; reassembled with new brushes; and performance tested.

We will repair or replace at our option, any part or parts of the product and accessories covered under this warranty which, after examination, proves to be defective in workmanship or material during the warranty period.
