Device management

Device management includes monitoring the operating status of devices and configuring their running
parameters.
NOTE:
The configuration tasks in this document are all optional and independent from one another.
Enabling MPU brand migration from H3C to HP
Perform brand migration immediately after you set up a switch or IRF fabric that has both H3C and HP
MPUs. The migration prevents network management software, for example, IMC, from mistakenly
identifying the following events as a device replacement:
On a standalone switch, active/standby switchover occurs between the H3C and HP MPUs at a
device reboot.
In an IRF fabric, one switch is re-elected as the master but its active MPU has a brand different than
the active MPU on the old master.
CAUTION:
You cannot restore the original brand information after a brand migration.
Follow these steps to enable MPU brand migration:
To do...
Check for H3C MPUs
Enable brand migration for each
H3C MPU
Reboot the MPUs to validate the
migration

Configuring the device name

A device name identifies a device in a network and works as the user view prompt at the CLI. For
example, if the device name is Sysname, the user view prompt is <Sysname>.
Follow these steps to configure the device name:
Use the command...
display oem
In standalone mode:
oem hp [ slot slot-number ]
In IRF mode:
oem hp [ chassis chassis-number
slot slot-number ]
In standalone mode:
reboot [ slot slot-number ]
In IRF mode:
reboot [ chassis chassis-number
[ slot slot-number ] ]
