Operating Principles
Rubbing
This operation removes dust or ink that adheres to the head surface. It eliminates ink by ejection
and absorption.
Micro Absorbing
When the cartridge is removed, it is possible for a small amount of air to form bubbles that can
block the ink from the nozzles. This operation eliminates these bubbles from the cavity of the
printhead.
Transportation Sequence
This operation is performed to clean the printhead when the printer is transported from factory to
market. A special command is entered at the factory to perform this operation.

Counters

Counters used for controlling ink system operation are stored in EEPROM 93C46 (IC11) on the
main board. This data is stored in RAM on the main board while the printer is on. These counters
and their functions are:
Protect Counter A
Protect Counter B
Protect Counter C
Ink Consumption
Counter
Note :
Disassembling or replacing the ink cartridge needlessly before ink is low or out will cause
the ink consumption counter to miscount. (See page 2-20.)
The protect counters are also reset when:
1. The printer is shipped from the factory.
2. After maintenance is performed (when the ink drain tank is replaced).
When you reset the EEPROM, perform EEPROM data installation as described in
Chapter 4.
Also when you reset the EEPROM, replace the left ink drain pad and the ink drain pad
under the mechanism.
2-28
This counter is used to manage the total amount of drained ink. If
the counter value is equal to or exceeds 400,000, the printer indicates
an error on the control panel; maintenance is then required. This
counter is reset only by the EEPROM reset function. (See page 1-20.)
This counter sets a limit to prevent the user from frequent initial ink
charging. This counter is stored in the EEPROM as a flag and is
reset only by the EEPROM reset function. (See page 1-20.)
This counter is used to manage the amount of ink in the left ink
drain pad in the paper eject unit. If the counter value is equal to or
exceeds 400,000, the printer indicates an error on the control panel;
maintenance is then required. This counter is reset only by the
EEPROM reset function. (See page 1-20.)
This counter is reset during ink cartridge replacement and during
EEPROM reset.
