Position the new heat-sink on the motherboard so that the four screws are aligned with the
holes in the motherboard.
b.
Tighten the screws in numeric order to secure the new heat-sink to the motherboard.
c.
Reinstall the screw on the top right corner of the heat-sink.
Step 16. Reattach the EMI cover, rear I/O module, stand holder, middle cover, optical drive, hard disk
drive, graphic card, rear covers and stand base.

Replacing the motherboard

Note: Turn off the computer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to let it cool down before removing the cover.
Note: It may be helpful to place the computer face-down on a soft flat surface for this procedure. Lenovo
recommends that you use a blanket, towel, or other soft cloth to protect the computer screen from scratches
or other damage.
To replace the motherboard:
Step 1.
Remove any media from the drives, shut down the operating system, and turn off the computer
and all attached devices.
Step 2.
Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets.
Step 3.
Disconnect all cables attached to the computer. This includes power cords, input/output (I/O)
cables, and any other cables that are connected to the computer. Refer to Locating connectors,
controls and components to locate the various connectors.
Step 4.
Remove the stand base. Refer to Removing the stand base.
Step 5.
Remove the rear cover. Refer to Removing the rear covers.
Step 6.
Remove the graphic card. Refer to Replacing the graphic card.
Step 7.
Remove the solid state drive if available. Refer to Replacing the solid state drive.
Step 8.
Remove the hard disk drive. Refer to Replacing the hard disk drive.
Step 9.
Remove the optical drive. Refer to Replacing the optical drive.
Step 10. Remove the middle cover. Refer to Removing the middle cover.
Step 11. Remove the stand holder. Refer to Removing the stand holder.
Step 12. Remove the rear I/O module. Refer to Replacing the rear I/O module.
Step 13. Remove the system fan. Refer to Replacing the system fan.
Step 14. Remove the EMI cover. Refer to Removing the EMI cover.
Step 15. Remove the memory modules. Refer to Replacing the memory module.
Step 16. Remove the heat-sink. Refer to Replacing the heat-sink.
Step 17. Remove the Wi-Fi card. Refer to Replacing the Wi-Fi card.
Step 18. Remove all the cables from the motherboard.
