8.5.3 Valve clearance – Check and adjustment
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑ Engine coolant temperature is max. 40 °C.
☑ Valves are closed.
Special tools, Material, Spare parts
Designation / Use
Feeler gage
Valve setting gauge
Angular screw driver
Torque wrench, 60–320 Nm
Socket wrench, 24 mm
Engine oil
Preparatory steps
1. Remove cylinder head covers (→ Page 145).
2. Install barring device (→ Page 129).
Note: Pointer (1) is located in the lower opening of
the flywheel housing (arrow).
3. Use barring device to turn crankshaft in di-
rection of rotation until marking OT/A1 on
the rear side of the flywheel housing and
pointer (1) are aligned.
