Jet pump clean-out procedure

WARNING
Severe injury or death may result if you ig-
nore any of the following:
Turn off and remove the main switch
G
key, remove the clip from the engine
shut-off switch, and wait for all move-
ment to stop before removing the ac-
cess port cap.
Never override the interlocks to run the
G
engine with the rear platform hatch
open.
The impeller has sharp edges. Be care-
G
ful when reaching into jet pump area.
If weeds or debris get caught in the intake or
impeller, cavitation can occur, and though the
engine speed rises, forward thrust will de-
crease. If this condition is allowed to continue,
jet pump damage can occur and the engine
may overheat and seize. If there is any sign
that the jet intake or impeller is clogged with
weeds or debris, follow this clean-out proce-
dure.
(1) Turn off and remove the main switch key,
remove the clip from the engine shut-off
switch, and wait for all movement to stop.
(2) Open the rear platform hatch. (See page
55.)
(3) Check that the retaining cord is securely
attached to the access port cap and re-
taining bracket.

(4) Push the unlock button and lift the access
port cap up out of the port. Set the cap
where it cannot be accidentally knocked
overboard.

(5) Remove any weeds or debris from the
drive shaft, impeller, pump housing, and
