Battery Terminals

(+) BATTERY TERMINAL

WARNING: Battery posts,
terminals, and related accessories
contain lead and lead compounds.
Wash hands after handling.
Connect the positive (+) battery cable
(red terminal cover) to the positive
(+) battery terminal, then connect the
negative (-) battery cable (black
terminal cover) to the negative (-)
battery terminal.
The negative (-) battery cable should
always be removed from the battery
before connecting or disconnecting

cannot cause a short circuit if they

touch a grounded part while being
used on the positive (+) battery
terminal fitting.
INSTALLATION
• Be careful to avoid connecting the
battery in reverse polarity, as this
will damage the battery-charging
system in the outboard motor.
• Do not disconnect the battery
cables while the engine is running.
Disconnecting the cables while the
engine is running will damage the
outboard motor's electrical system.
• Battery cable extension: Extending
the original battery cable will
cause the battery voltage to drop
due to the increased length of the
cable and number of connections.
The outboard may not start if the
battery voltage reaching the engine
is too low.
