Install the heat sink onto the microprocessor as described in Step 11 on page 218.

Removing the heat-sink retention module

Use this information to remove the heat-sink retention module.
To remove a heat-sink retention module, complete the following steps:
Step 1.
Read the safety information that begins on "Safety" on page v and "Removing and replacing
guidelines" on page 101.
Step 2.
Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
Step 3.
Remove the top cover (see "Removing the top cover" on page 116).
Step 4.
Remove the air baffle (see "Removing the air baffle" on page 119).
Step 5.
Remove the heat sink (see "Removing a microprocessor and heat sink" on page 207).
Attention: When you remove a microprocessor and heat sink, be sure to keep each heat sink with
its microprocessor for reinstallation.
Step 6.
Use a screwdriver and remove the four screws that secure the retention module to the system
board; then, lift the retention module from the system board.

Step 7.
If you are instructed to return the heat-sink retention module, follow all the packaging instructions,
and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Replacing the heat-sink retention module

Use this information to replace the heat-sink retention module.
