Radio control system components
In our test models we connected the wing-mounted servos in each wing panel to a Magic-Box, Order No.
3162. The advantage of using Magic-Boxes is that it is very straightforward to program and adjust the
control surfaces so that the servos run exactly synchronously, have the same neutral point and identical
travels.
Note that the two rudder servos and the steerable nosewheel are controlled by the same receiver channel - a
good method of electronically coupling the servos is once again to use a Magic-Box, Order No. 3162,
which is simply wired into the cable loom. This unit also allows you to reverse one or both servos as
required.
Deploy all servo extension leads carefully and neatly, and group them together where possible using
retaining plates (No. 33), cable ties (No. 34) and soft binding wire (No. 71).
The retaining plates (No. 33) are self-adhesive, but the joints should be reinforced with cyano for extra
security.
Check that all plug / socket connections are sound, and tape them together to avoid any chance of them
working loose as a result of vibration.
Take care to arrange the cables in the rear part of the model in such a way that there is absolutely no chance
of them touching any part of the undercarriage, especially when the wheels are retracted. They should also
be kept as far from the turbine as possible, to avoid potential heat damage and ingestion into the engine. We
strongly recommend that you fit a JetNet intake guard to the turbine.
Adjust the position of the receiver battery and turbine battery until the model balances at the correct Centre
of Gravity without requiring lead ballast at the nose or tail.
Centre of Gravity (CG): 125 - 130 mm forward of the front face of the wing joiner tube, measured at
the root rib, with the main fueltank empty.
We recommend that you fit out and assemble the model completely, ready to fly, before you fit the receiver
and receiver battery in the model, so that you can install these parts in the optimum location and obtain the
correct CG without resorting to ballast.
Pack the receiver in soft foam and install it on the right-hand side between the switch and the turbine
electronics, as shown in (Figs. 22, 45). We recommend our shock-absorbing receiver packing, Order No.
1665, for this: pack the receiver in neoprene and fix it to the fuselage floor with Velcro tape for security.
Mount the receiver battery securely in the nose area of the fuselage, taking the CG position into account.
Programming the radio control system
Both control surfaces on each wing panel must move through the same deflections and at exactly the same
speed in both directions.
When programming and adjusting the control surface travels it is important to ensure that they operate
symmetrically and synchronously, i.e. if you apply up-elevator or down-elevator, all four elevons (both
wings) should move through the same angle at exactly the same time. If you work carefully your model
will fly perfectly straight "hands off", without any tendency, for example, to roll when you apply up-
elevator.
Check also that the aileron travels are the same in both directions.
To set up and fine-tune the control surface travels use a setsquare and measure at the trailing edge at
exactly the centre point each time.

The stated control surface travels and exponential settings have been established as the optimum on our
test models with the CG located at 125 mm. You may wish to alter them to suit your personal style of
flying.
