Running faults

Produces excess smoke when running [33]
G black smoke: fuel injector pump is over fuelling - needs re-calibration
G black smoke: worn injector nozzles - replace
G black smoke: dirty air cleaner - replace
G white smoke: engine rings failed
G white smoke: injector pump timing needs adjustment, or opening pressure is
too low
G white smoke: value problems
G black smoke: exhaust gas re-circulation valve failed - replace or blank off
Idles roughly
G fuel injector pump incorrect setting
G exhaust gas re-circulation valve failed
Engine cuts out when idling
G air leak in fuel system
G fuel injector pump setting

Engine noises
G fanbelt rattle (intermittent): crankshaft pulley has a rubber adhesive which can
fail, eventually causing failure of engine cooling and electrical systems [14]
