1 Main charger : A negative electrostatic charge
is placed on the photoconduc-
tive (photosensitive) surface of
the drum.
2 Exposure
: Forms an electrostatic latent
image on the photoconductive
surface of the drum.
3 Development : Positively charged toner is at-
tracted to the photoconductive
surface of the drum to form a
visible image.
4 Transfer bias : Raises transfer efficiency.
5 Transfer
: Transfers the visible toner im-
age from the surface of the
drum to the copy paper.

together with the toner image.
: The toner image is fixed to the
copy paper by heat and pres-
sure.
: Any toner remaining on the
photoconductive surface of the
drum is mechanically removed
by the cleaning blade.
: Erases the electrostatic charge
remaining on the photoconduc-
tive surface of the drum.
