Step 7.
Rotate the retention latch to the close position. Make sure the retention latch engages the adapter
securely.
Step 8.
Connect the cable to the network controller sideband connector on the system board. (See
"System-board internal connectors" on page 23).
Attention:
• When you route cables, do not block any connectors or the ventilated space around any of
the fans.
• Make sure that cables are not routed on top of components that are under the PCI riser-card
assembly.
• Make sure that cables are not pinched by the server components.
Step 9.
Install the PCI riser-card assembly (see "Installing a PCI riser-card assembly" on page 75).
Step 10. Perform any configuration tasks that are required for the adapter.
If you have other devices to install or remove, do so now. Otherwise, go to "Completing the installation"
on page 73.

Installing a ServeRAID adapter on the PCI riser-card assembly

Use this information to install a ServeRAID adapter on the PCI riser-card assembly.
Important: When you install ServeRAID adapters on the PCI riser-card assemblies, please install them in
the order listed:
• Slot 3
• Slot 2 (For the rear backplane or external ServeRAID adapter only)
• Slot 1 (For external ServeRAID adapter only)
