    First-time Operation Read the steps below to help you learn what parts are included, and to gain an understanding of some basic computer-related operations. Latch Cover Label-side down Mark Write down the Product Key or Product ID Write down the number shown on the “Certificate of Authenticity” located on the bottom of the computer.

Turn your computer on Slide the power switch toward the rear of the computer and hold it for approximately one second until the power indicator turns on before releasing it.

    Reinstalling Software Before Reinstallation Preparing You will need the followings: • Product Recovery CD-ROM • If it was necessary to create BACKUP DISKS (“Create BACKUP Disks for Reinstallation” on Page 19), you will need the BACKUP DISKS (e.g., FIRSTAID FD) and the SuperDisk drive (CF-VFS712) or the USB floppy disk drive (CF-VFDU03). The operation of reinstallation takes about 1 hour (Windows 98) or 20 minutes (Windows NT and Windows 2000).
  • Page 24 <When using the USB floppy disk drive> Turn the computer off and connect the floppy disk drive to the computer. Set the FIRSTAID FD into the floppy disk drive and turn the computer on. Follow the on-screen instructions. When the message “Insert media 2...” is displayed, insert Product Recovery CD-ROM 2 after removing Product Re- covery CD-ROM 1, and then immediately press [OK].
