30 Parental Levels

You can set the Player to block or allow playback according to the DVD
movie rating. Some DVDs may give you the option of entering your
password to allow playback. If not, change the PARENTAL setting so you
can watch the Disc.
Not all DVDs conform to the levels you select, as not all DVDs are coded
or protected by the DVD manufacturer.Therefore, make sure the DVD
plays according to your PARENTAL setting before you allow children
unlimited access to the Player or DVDs.
To prevent specific DVDs from playing, regardless of how you set the
PARENTAL level, see page 29.

Press STOP

Press SYSTEM MENU.

Press 2 to select the PREFERENCE PAGE icon at the top
of the menu, then press OK or 4. You can select the
PREFERENCE PAGE icon only if you have completely stopped DVD
playback by pressing STOP

Press 4 to select PARENTAL, then press 2.

Press 3 or 4 to choose the Parental level at which you want
to restrict playback, then press OK.
For example, if you do not want children to watch movies rated
above PG, select 3 PG. DVDs rated PG can play without entering a
password; however, DVDs rated PG-13, R, NC-17, or X (ADULT)
cannot play unless you enter your password.
• ADULT - Mature material; should be viewed only by adults due to graphic
sexual material, violence, or language.
• NC-17 - No children under age 17; not recommended viewing for children
under age 17.
• R - Restricted; recommended that parents restrict children under age 17
from viewing or allow children to view only when supervised by a parent
or adult guardian.
• PGR - Parental Guidance Required
• PG 13 - Material is unsuitable for children under age 13.
• PG - Parental Guidance suggested.
• G - General Audience; recommended as acceptable for viewers of all ages.
• KID SAFE - Safe for children to view

A screen will prompt you to enter your password. Press the
Number buttons to enter your six-digit password, then
press OK. The Parental settings will appear, with the level you
selected highlighted in brown. Your password will not appear on the
TV screen, but Xs will show as you enter each digit. Password details
are on page 28.

Press SYSTEM MENU to remove the menus.

Helpful Hints
• When you press STOP 7 twice
to stop DVD play so you can
adjust the PARENTAL level, play
starts at the beginning of the
DVD when you resume play.
• The PARENTAL settings do not
affect Video CDs, Super Video
CDs, or Audio CDs. PARENTAL
only affects DVD playback.
