    Quick Guide This is the overview of the procedure to record and playback pictures with the camera. For each operation, be sure to refer to the corresponding pages. 1 Insert the batteries. (P12, 17) • When you do not use the card (optional), you can record or play back pictures on the built-in memory (P19).

  • Page 14 • As the ambient temperature is low (10oC or less), the performance of the batteries will be deteriorated and the available recording/playback time becomes extremely short. This is normal. Alkaline batteries significantly show such tendencies. In such cases, remove the batteries and warm them in your pocket.

    Recording pictures (basic) Taking Pictures ∫ The Mode Dial This camera has a mode dial to suit recording of many kinds of scenes. Select the desired mode and enjoy the variety of recording. The mode dial can be rotated 360o. Rotate it slowly and securely to adjust to each mode. (Do not adjust the mode dial to the space between the marks of modes.) : Normal picture mode (P30) Use this mode for usual recording.

    AF Mode [AF MODE] 5-area-focusing: The camera focuses on any of 5 focus areas. You can record a picture in free composition without limiting the position of the subject. 3-area-focusing: The camera focuses on any of the left, centre and right of the screen. This mode allows you to focus on the subject faster than any other modes in AF mode.

    Slow Shutter [SLOW SHUTTER] The shutter speed can be automatically adjusted. However, if you want brighter pictures, you can manually select a slower shutter speed. This is especially effective if you want to take pictures where both the night landscape and the subject are bright, using [NIGHT PORTRAIT] in scene mode (P56).
