Verifying installation requirements

The installation takes less than 10 minutes. You will
need the following items:
Replacement director blade
Filler panel for each empty slot (ships with the
director blade)
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) grounding strap
Workstation computer
Phillips screwdriver
Small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers, as
needed (must be ordered separately)
Quad SFP (QSFP) transceivers, as needed (must
be ordered separately)
Extended form-factor pluggable (XFP) transceivers,
as needed, for the FC10-6 only
Optical cables, as needed
Transceiver support
The FC8-64 supports mSFPs only, and is shipped
with them installed.
Except for the FC8-64, all 8 Gb and 16 Gb
blades use B-series SFPs.
CR16-8 and CR16-4 use QSFP transceivers for
ICL connections.

Removing the filler panel

Remove the filler panel, if installed. There are three
filler panel types
(Figure 18 (page
11)).
CAUTION:
Remove a filler panel only when
installing or replacing a Director blade. All slots
that are not occupied by a Director blade
require a filler panel to ensure cooling of the
chassis and protection from dust.
To remove a filler panel with a handle:
1.
Unscrew the two captive screws on the filler
panel.
2.
Grasp the handle and remove the filler panel.
To remove a filler panel with ejectors:

Push in the yellow tab on each ejector.
2.
Open both ejectors and remove the filler panel.
To remove a filler panel with pull tabs:
1.
Unscrew the top and bottom captive screws on
the filler panel.
2.
Grasp the top and bottom pull tabs and remove
the filler panel.

Determining the ejector type

Installation procedures vary depending on the ejector
mechanism on the blade. This section identifies the
blades that use ejectors and sliders, and the blades
that use ejectors only.
