When using a new DVD-RW disc
When using a DVD-RW disc, select whether to
record in VR format or Video format and then
format the disc. (l 22, About format types)
When a new DVD-RW disc is used, the screen
shown in the illustration appears.

Select [YES], then press the
joystick.

Select format type, then press
the joystick.
[VIDEO]:
Video format (Cannot edit or delete scenes)
[VR]:
VR format (Allows editing and deleting of
scenes)

When the confirmation message appears
Select [YES], then press the
joystick.
≥ If the disc is formatted, then all the data
recorded on the disc will be erased.
≥ To change the format type, format the disc
again. (l 71)

Disc handling
≥ Do not touch the recording/playback surface.
≥ If there are scratches, dirt or fingerprints on the
recording/playback side of the disc, images
cannot be recorded or played back normally
and the following phenomena may occur:
jRecording or playback becomes impossible.
jPlayback image stops momentarily or sound
is interrupted during playback.
jBlock noise appears on playback images.
≥ If there is dirt on the disc, wipe with a damp
cloth and then wipe dry.
≥ Do not attach labels or stickers to discs.
≥ Do not use ballpoint pens or other hard writing
implements to write on a label. Use a soft fiber
pen with solvent ink.
≥ Do not use solvents to clean the disc.
≥ Do not drop, stack, or impact discs. Do not
place objects on them.
≥ Do not use the following discs:
jDiscs that are badly warped or cracked.
jIrregularly shaped discs, such as heart
shapes.
≥ Do not leave discs in the following areas.
jIn direct sunlight.
jIn very dusty or humid areas.
jNear a heater.
jLocations susceptible to significant
difference in temperature (condensation can
occur).
≥ To protect discs, keep them in their cases
when not being used.
