starter rope into the notch in the flywheel
rotor and wind the rope 1 or 2 turn(s)
around the flywheel clockwise.

Pull the rope slowly until resistance is
felt. Give a strong pull straight out to
crank and start the engine. If the engine
does not start on the first try, repeat the
procedure.
TIP:
If the engine does not start on the first try,
repeat the procedure. If the engine fails to
start after 4 or 5 tries, open the throttle a
small amount (between 1/8 and 1/4) and
try again. Also if the engine is warm and
fails to start, open the throttle a same
amount and try to start the engine again. If
the engine still fails to start, see page 38.
Slowly return the throttle grip to the fully
closed position so that the engine does not
stall.

Treatment of submerged motor

If the outboard motor is submerged, immedi-
ately take it to a Yamaha dealer. Otherwise
some corrosion may begin almost immedi-
ately. NOTICE: Do not attempt to run the
outboard motor until it has been com-
pletely inspected.
