14-1235.fm Page 5 Friday, July 2, 1999 11:13 AM PREPARATION INSTALLING BATTERIES You need two AA batteries to power the SCP-92. For the best performance, we recommend alkaline bat- teries, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-552. Follow these steps to install batteries.

If the sound gets distorted or weak, replace the bat- teries. Cautions: • If you do not plan to use the SCP-92 for a week or more, remove the batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that corrode or damage electronic cir- cuits.

Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones.

After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. • Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to per- manent hearing loss.
USING THE BELT CLIP The belt clip lets you keep your hands free while you listen to the SCP-92. To attach the belt clip, align it with the slots on the back of the SCP-92, then press the tab and slide the clip in the opposite direction of the arrow until it latches in place.

STOP PLAY back. To rewind the tape, turn the tape over and press F.FWD • The cassette player automatically stops when the current tape side ends, but you must press to release STOP F.FWD 6. Adjust to the desired listening level.

We do not recom- mend long-playing cassette tapes, such as C-120s, because they are extremely thin and can easily tan- gle in the playback mechanism.
Dirt, dust, or particles of the tape’s coating can accu- mulate on the tape head and other parts that the tape touches. This can reduce the SCP-92’s performance. Follow these steps to clean the tape-handling parts after about every 20 hours of tape player operation.
