Danger! Fire hazard! Avoid short-circuiting the
contacts of a detached battery (e.g. when storing the
battery in a toolbox). Do not incinerate the battery. Do
not attempt to charge damaged batteries.
CHARGERS
f Use your BLACK+DECKER charger only to charge
batteries of the type supplied with your tool. Other
batteries could burst, causing personal injury and
damage.
f Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
f Have defective cords replaced immediately.
f Do not expose to water.
f Do not open the charger.
f Do not probe the charger.
f The charger is intended for indoor use only.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
FOR HAMMER DRILLS
f Before drilling into walls, floors or ceilings, check for
the location of wiring and pipes.
f Avoid touching the tip of a drill bit just after drilling, as
it may be hot.

USING AN EXTENSION CORD

In case an extension cord is needed, it needs to be an
approved extension cord suitable for the tool power (see
rating plate). The minimum should be 1mm
works with a spool, always unwind the cord completely.
ASSEMBLY
Fitting the side handle (Fig. A)
(only for HP180K)
f Loosen the side handle (8) by turning it counterclockwise.
f Slide the side handle over the chuck and onto the housing.
f Tighten the side handle by turning it clockwise.
Fitting and removing the battery (Fig. B)
f To fit the battery (9), line it up with the receptacle on
the tool. Slide the battery into the receptacle and push
until the battery snaps into place.
f To remove the battery, push the release button
(10) while at the same time pulling the battery out of
the receptacle.
Fitting and removing a drill bit or screwdriver bit
(Fig. A and C)
This tool is fitted with a keyless chuck to allow for an easy
exchange of bits.
f Lock the tool by setting the forward/reverse slider (2)
to the centre position (FIG. A).
f Open the chuck by turning the front part (12) with one hand
while holding the rear part (13) with the other (Fig. C).
f Insert the bit shaft (14) into the chuck.
f Firmly tighten the chuck by turning the front part (12)
f This tool is supplied with a double-ended screwdriver

Charging the battery (Fig. D)
The battery needs to be charged before first use and
whenever it fails to produce sufficient power on jobs
that were easily done before. A new battery, or a battery
that has not been used for an extended period of time,
achieves full performance only after approx. 5 charging
and discharging cycles. The battery may become warm
while charging; this is normal and does not indicate a
problem.
After normal use, a charging time of 6~9 hours will
provide sufficient power for most applications. However,
