I fill the hopper with ice cubes and shut the lid. When I turn the machine on, it makes a loud whiny sound. When I removed the ice, shut the lid and turned it in, everything worked. What am I doing wrong?

A loud whiny sound when using the Nostalgia Electrics SCC-200 ice machine could be caused by ice cubes that are too hard or too cold. For optimal shaving results, the manual recommends letting ice cubes sit for a short while before putting them in the shaving unit. Using overly hard or fresh-from-freezer ice may cause strain on the blades or motor, resulting in a loud noise.
