These balloons indicate that your computer has detected and installed the phone’s drivers, and it is normal for them to appear.

Because it uses an Internet connection instead of a phone line, long- distance calling rates are significantly lower. You might want to use SkypeOut if your friends do not have Skype, if they are offline, or if you want to save money on your long-distance calls.

    APPENDICES Appendix A: Managing Skype Contacts In order to talk to people through Skype, you need to add their user names to your list of contacts. This keeps your contacts organized, and when you are logged in, it allows you to see whether or not your friends are online and able to talk to you.

    APPENDICES Appendix C: Purchasing Skype Credit In order to use the SkypeOut service, which lets you call any phone number in the world from your computer, you first have to purchase Skype Credit. This is done on the Skype Web site. 1.
