Adjusting steering
bearings play
Excessive handlebar play or shaking
forks in the steering head indicate
that the play in the steering head
bearings requires adjustment.
Proceed as follows:
Unscrew the four screws (1) and
remove the two clamps (2). Lift the
handlebar (3) off the steering head
and position it so as to give access to
the area for the next operations.
Loosen the screws (4) on the steering
head at the fork leg clamps.
Loosen the clamp screw (5) securing
the steering tube clamp to the
steering head.
Turn the ring nut (6) using the tool
part no. 88713.1058 to the specified
torque (Sect. C 3)
Note
For better clarity, the vehicle is
shown with the steering head and
other components removed in some
pictures. However, the disassembly
procedures described here are
sufficient to ensure access to the
area and adjust play.
Tighten any screws you have
loosened previously to the specified
torque (Sect. C 3).
Refit the handlebar, install the two
clamps (2) and tighten the four clamp
retaining screws (1) to the specified
torque (Sect. C 3).
Turn the handlebar to full steering
lock in both directions to check for
correct bearing play.
