Electrical safety

@
This product must be earthed. Always check that
the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the
rating plate.
Power plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in
any way. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce
risk of electric shock.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
u
manufacturer or an authorised Black & Decker Service
Centre in order to avoid a hazard.
Extension cables & Class 1 product
A 3-core cable must be used as your appliance is earthed
u
and of Class 1 construction.
Up to 30m (100 ft) can be used without loss of power.
u
Voltage Drops
Inrush currents cause short-time voltage drops. Under unfa-
vourable power supply conditions, other equipment may be
affected. For example, artificial lighting will show a temporary
drop in magnitude when the machine is switched on. If the
system impedance of the power supply is lower than 0.19 Ω,
disturbances are unlikely to occur.
Features
This tool includes some or all of the following features.

To increase the temperature setting, turn the heat control
u
knob (2) clockwise.
To reduce the temperature setting, turn the heat control
u
knob anti-clockwise.
Switching on and off
To switch the tool on, set the on/off switch (1) to position I.
u
To switch the tool off, set the on/off switch to position O.
u
Warning! This tool is fitted with a thermal cut out to prevent
the tool from over heating. If during use the tool becomes too
hot through being used for prolonged periods or being used
too close to the work surface then the tool will switch off.
When this occurs, switch the tool off and disconnect from the
supply mains. Place the tool in its rest position and allow at
least 30 mins for the tool to cool down before attempting to
switch the tool back on. Once the tool cools it will switch on
again. Never leave the tool un-attended when connected to
the mains.
Using the tool
Your tool is fitted with a thermostat for your safety. Using the
tool continuously for very long periods or other severe duty
cycles may cause the tool to overheat and stop working. It is
therefore recommended that you allow the tool to cool down at
regular intervals during use.
Allow the tool to heat up for a few seconds before use.
u
At first use some smoke may emit from the nozzle. This is
u
normal and will soon decrease.
Your tool is capable of many different heat settings using
u
a combination of the two settings on the trigger and the
variable heat control dial.
Use a low temperature setting for drying paint and varnish,
u
removing stickers, shrinking insulation tubes, and thawing
frozen pipes.
