RAM Random-access memory. Memory in which
information can be accessed in an arbitrary manner.
This memory can be written to and read from but is lost
when power is turned off or lost.
ROM Read-only memory in the printer. Its contents
can be read but not changed and are retained even after
power is turned off or lost. See also: firmware,
flash-ROM.
select Marking a file, program, or folder so that the
next action will apply to that item.
SIMM Single Inline Memory Module. Units of
random access memory (RAM) that can be installed on
your printer.
Simple Network Management Protocol The most
popular network management protocol for TCP/IP
networks. Simple Network Management Protocol lets
TCP/IP sites exchange information about the
configuration and status of a node's TCP/IP protocol
stack.
SNMP See Simple Network Management Protocol
status display The LCD display on the operator panel
of the printer that shows status and alert messages.
status message A message on the operator panel of the
Silentwriter printer that communicates the current
operating status of the printer. See also: alert message.
TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol/Internet
Protocol. A computer network communications
standard. Commonly used with UNIX.
WAN See Wide Area Network
wide area network Any physical network technology
that spans large geographic distances.
