Chapter 9 Operation and Maintenance

9.1 Daily Maintenance

This section explains procedures for checking the status of the server in operation
and for performing daily maintenance.

9.1.1 Checking the Server Status

Checking each LED
This server is equipped with LEDs that display various hardware conditions.
Check the server status with each LED after starting the server. For locations and functions of each
status LED, refer to "1.3 Component Names and Functions" ( pg.22).
Server monitoring tool (ServerView)
ServerView is software to monitor whether the server hardware is in a normal state to protect important
server resources. When using ServerView, the server hardware is monitored all the time. If an error that
could cause trouble is detected, the error is notified in real-time which enables early detection. This
allows quicker response to system errors and prevents the error from becoming a serious problem.
For an overview and installation of ServerView and other high reliability tools, refer to "1.2.2 High
Reliability Tools" ( pg.19) and "Chapter 6 High Reliability Tools" ( pg.111).

9.1.2 Cleaning

Perform periodical cleaning for the server.

• Before cleaning, turn off the server and unplug the power cables from the
outlets. Also turn off peripherals and disconnect them from the server.
Otherwise electric shock may occur. ( "1.4.3 Turning Off the Server" (pg.30)).
• Do not use any cleaning sprays (including inflammable types). It may cause a
device failure or a fire.
