SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
FOR BENCH GRINDER
T BEFORE USING THE GRINDER:
1. Read these safety instructions and
review your grinder's owner manual.
GROUND ALL TOOLS. lf the tool is equipped with a 3-prong
plug, it must be plugged into a 3-contact electric outlet. The 3rd prong
is a grounC to provide protection against accrdental electric shock. Never rernove
the 3rd prong on a grounded plug. See Grounding lnstructions in your grinder
cwner's manual.
AVO|D OANGEROUS CONDITIONS. DO NOT use oower tools in wet or damp
areas oi-expose tfrem to rain.
D0 NOT use power iools In the presence o{ flammable liquids or gases.
AI.WAYS keep your work area clean, uncluttered and well lit. DO NOT work on floor
surfaces that are slippery from sawdust or wax.
KEEP VISITORS AND CHILDREN AWAY. Other people should keep a safe distance
from the work area, especially when tool is operating.
DO NOT FOHCE THE TOOL. Never force a tool to do a job for u/hich it was not
designed. lt will do a better and safer joo by only using on jobs for which it
was designed.
DRESS FOR SAFETY. DO NOT wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, or jeweky
(rings. watches); they can get caught and draw you into moving parts. ALWAYS
wear non-slio footwear: tie back lono hair.
SAFETY RULES FOR BENCH GRINDERS
1. ALWAYS USE TOOL GUARDS AND EYE SHIELDS PROVIOED WITH GRINDER.
SAFETY GOGGLES AND OTHER EYE PROTECTION.
KEEP THUMBS AND
FINGERS AWAY FROM WHEEL.
2. REPLACE A CRACKED GRlNDltlG WHEEL IMMEDIATELY.
Handle wheels carefully;
betore replacing a wheel, check it for cracks. Tighten the spindle nut just enough
to hold the wheel firmly; if the nut is tightened too much, the clamping strain can
damage the wheel. Use only wheel.flanges provided with grinder. When selecting
a replacement wheel, be sure that the grinder will not exceed the manufacturer's
recommended speed (RPM's)for the wheel.
3. AS THE DIAMETER OF THE GRINDING WHEEL DECREASES WITH USE, AdiUSt
tool rests to maintain a distance of 1/16inch or less from the wheel. Also keep the
distance between the spark arrestor and grinding wheel 1/8 of an inch or less.
19. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Always keep tools clean and in good working order.
20. CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Before each use of tool, a gudrd orother part that is
Camaged shouid be careiully checked to determine that it will operate properly and
perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of
moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting or any other conditions that may affect
its operation. A gu?'!rd or other part that is damaged should be properiy repaired
or reolaced.
21 . MAKE WORKSHOP CHILD PROOF. By use of padlocks, master switches, or by
removing starter keys.
22. DRUGS, ALCOHOL OR MEOICATIONS. DO NOT operate tool if you are under the
influence ol drugs, alcohol or medication that could attect your ability to use the
tool properly.
23. SECURE ALL WORK. When practical, use clamps or a vise to hold work. lt is safer
than using your hands and prevents round or odd-shaped pieces from turning.
HOW TO ORDER REPLACEMENT
PARTS:
Now that you have purchased your Pedestal Grinder Stand, should a need ever exist
for repair parts or service, simply contact any Sears Service Center and most Sears
stores. Be sure to provide all pertinent facts when you call or visit.

DO NOT STAND lN FRONT OF GRINDER WHEN STARTING lT. To start the grinder,
stand to one side and turn it on. Wait at side until the grinder comes up to full speed.
There is always a possibility that a piece from a damag€d grinding wheel may be
thrown off when coming to full speed.
EXHAUST CHUTE WILL CHANNEL OUT SPARKS AND DEBRIS. . . BE SURE
EXHAUST lS NOT lN THE VICINITY OF FLAMIIABLE MATERIAL. Frequently clean
grinding dust from back of grinder.
NEVER FORCE WORK AGAINST A GRINOING WHEEL, especially if the wheel is
cold. Apply the work gradually to give the wheel an opportunity to warm. This will
minimize the chance of wheel breakage.
KEEP ALL WHEEL GUARDS IN PLACE. DO NOT USE GRINDER WITH WHEEL
GUARD REMOVEO.
DO NOTTRY TO CUT ANYTHING WITH THE GRINDING WHEEL.
ALWAYS USE A WHEEL DRESSER TO RESURFACE
THE GRINDING WHEEL.
WEAR A FACE MASK OR DUST MASK IF GRTNDING OPERATION PRODUCES
DUST.
ALWAYS remove the power cord plug from the electric outlet when making adjust-
ments, changing parts, cleaning, or working on tool.
KEEP GUARDS IN PLACE AND IN WORKING ORDER.
AvOID ACCIDENTAL STARTING. Ensure that the Dower switch is in the "OFF"
position betore plugging in the power cord.
REMOVE ADJUSTING TOOLS. Form habit of checking to see that tools and adjust-
ing wrenches are remo'red lrom the grinder before turning it on.
U$E ONLY RECOMMENOED
ACCESSORIES.
Using improper accessories can be
hazardous. lf in doubt, check the instruction rnanual that comes with that accessory.
NEVER LEAVE A'fOOL RUNNING UNATTENDED.
Turn the power srvitch of "OFF".
DO NOT leave tool untii it has come to a complete stop.
NEVER STAND ON A TABLE. Serious injury could result if the tool tips or you
accidentally hit the Erindinq wfreel. DO NOT stcre anything above or near the tool
lvhere anyone might stand on the tooi to reach it.
DON'T OVERREACH. {reep prope!' footing and baiance at all times. Wear oil{esistant
rubber-soled footwear. KeeD floor clear of oil. scrap wood and other debris.

The operation of any Grinder can result in foreign objects
being thrown into your eyes, which can result in severe eye
damage. Before commencing power tooloperation, always
wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields and
a full face shield when needed. A Wide Vision Safety Mask
for use over spectacles or standard safety glasses with side
shields is available at Sears stores.
