B.2

Redundant Operation

Refer to Appendix A. REMOTE CONTROL for further information about the remote commands
mentioned in this section.
B.2.1
Auto Mode
In this mode, one converter is always online (determined by the switch position and indicated on
the front panel), and the other converter is always offline and muted. If a fault is detected on the
online converter, either by loss of communications between the base unit and the online
converter, or via the summary fault, the base unit will switch the RF and IF switches and the
offline converter then become the active (online) unit (assuming the offline unit is not faulted).
B.2.2
Force Switchover
The online converter can be forced to become the offline unit (assuming the offline unit is not
faulted) either via the remote command (RED) or by front panel operation (
).
FORCE
B.2.3
Gain Equalization of Redundant Units
Both converters are temperature compensated at same gain level, so the gain will stay the same
during a switchover.
B.2.4
Operational Configuration Commands
The attenuation command (ATT) sent to the online unit will be mirrored in the offline unit. The
commands sent to the offline unit will be rejected.
