Attaching the Battery Cables
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessoriescontainlead and
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiato
cause cancerand reproductiveharm.Wash handsafter handling.
Whenattaching battery cables,alwaysconnect the POSITIVE (Red)wire to its
terminal first, followed bythe NEGATIVE (Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons, bothbatterycables on yourequipmenthavebeenleft
disconnected f rom the terminalsat the factory.Toconnect t he batterycables,
proceed asfollows:
NOTE: ThepositivebatteryterminalismarkedPos. ( +).Thenegativebattery
terminalismarkedNeg. ( -).
1. Remove t he plasticcover, i f present, f rom the positivebatteryterminaland
attachthe redcableto the positivebatteryterminal(+) with the bolt and
hexnut.SeeFigure 1.
2. Remove t he plasticcover, i f present, f rom the negativebatteryterminaland
attachthe blackcableto the negative batteryterminal(-) with the bolt and
hexnut.SeeFigure 1.
Shipping BraceRemoval
Makesurethe ridingmower'sengine isoff, removethe ignition key,and
set the parkingbrake before removing the shipping brace.Referto the
Operaton sect on for nstruct ons on how to set the park ng brake.
I. Check t he mowerdeckfor ashipping bracethatmaybeholdingthe chute
deflectorupwardfor shipment. I f the brace ispresent,it mustberemoved
before operatingthe tractor.Holding the chutedeflectorfullyupward,
remove the shippingbrace. L ower the chutedeflectoranddiscard the
shippingbrace. S eeFigure 2.

3. Position the redrubberbootoverthe positive batteryterminalto help
protectit from corrosion.
NOTE: Ifthe batteryisput intoservice after the dateshownon top of battery,
charge the batteryasinstructed in the Service & Maintenance s ectionofthis
manual p riorto operatingthe tractor.
Theshipping brace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly, must be removed and
discardedbefore operatingyour ridingmower.
Themowing deckis capableof throwing objects. Failureto operate the
Iriding mower without the dischargechutedeflector in the properoperating
[position could result in seriouspersonalinjuryand/or property damage.
Attaching The SteeringWheel
Ifthe steeringwheelforyourtractordid notcomeattached, t he hardware for
attachingit hasbeenpacked within the steeringwheel,beneath the steeringwheel
cap.Carefully pryoffthe steeringwheelcapandremove the hardware.
I. With the wheels of the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe steering
wheeloverthe steeringshaft.
