6. Using the J 5403, install the switch retaining ring
with the high point of the cuNed. sides adjacent t.o
the switch housing.

7. Ensure that the retaining ring is seated in the
retaining ring groove in the switch cavity.
8. Evacuate and recharge the system.
9. Perform a leak test. Refer to Compressor Leak
Testing (VS - Conventional Mount).

Compressor Leak Testing
(VS - Conventional Mount)
• J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector
• J 39500-8 A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling
and Recharging (ACR4) System
• J 39893 Pressure Testing Connector
1 . With the sealing washers in place, install the
J 39893 on the rear head of the compressor.
2. Connect the gage charging lines and
the J 39500-8.
3. Pressurize the suction and the high-side of the
compressor using R-134a refrigerant.
4. With the compressor in a horizontal position,
rotate the compressor shaft several turns by
hand in the operating direction.
5. Using the J 39400-A, inspect for leaks at the
following locations:

The pressure relief valve
• The rear head switch
• The front head seal
• The rear head seal
• The through bolt head gaskets
• The compressor shaft seal
6. Perform the measures necessary to correct any
external leaks found.
7. Inspect for leaks again following any repair.
8. Recover the refrigerant.
9. Disconnect the hoses from the J 39893.
10. Remove the J 39893.
