    • To keep the print head in optimum operating condition, maintenance is performed when the printer is turned on. If the printer is turned on and off frequently, more ink is consumed for each maintenance operation. To reduce ink consumption, leave the power on when using the printer. Note: To keep the print head in the optimum operating condition, the ink and cleaning solution are also used in maintenance operations such as head cleaning in addition to printing.

You may not be able to print properly. • Do not drop ink cartridges or subject them to impacts. It may cause ink to leak. Note: To maintain the quality of the print head, the printer stops printing before ink cartridges are completely expended.

    Replacing the Platen You may need to replace the platen, depending on the size of the T-shirt. Note: There are four platen sizes: small, medium, large, and sleeve. The medium size platen (standard) is supplied with the printer. 1. If the platen is not in the forward position, press the moveable base button to move the platen forward.

  • Page 45 7. Gently pull the edges of the T-shirt outside of the frame to remove any slack. Note: The printer detects the highest part of the print surface and adjusts the height accordingly. If there are any creases or slack near the inside edge of the frame, print quality may decline. However, do not stretch the T-shirt so much that the printed image will be distorted.

    If the sensor is still triggered, try the following: 1. Remove the frame and smooth out the creases and slack. 2. Reduce the width of the White ink in the printer's Garment Creator software or the RIP software so that the white under-base print does not extend outside the image. Note: Be careful not to touch the T-shirt while printing as it can easily move out of position.

    Printing from a USB Memory Device You can save print data from Garment Creator on a USB memory device and then connect the device to the printer for printing. Note: Data on the USB memory device is saved as filename Epson_repeat_print.prn. You can save print jobs from the Garment Creator software to any location on the computer or the USB memory device.

    Connecting and Printing from a USB Memory Device You can print from a USB memory device connected to your printer. 1. Make sure the power light is not flashing. Note: Do not connect or disconnect a USB memory device when the power light is flashing.

    Maintenance Safety Instructions When performing any printer maintenance procedures, follow these safety instructions: • Remove any loaded T-shirt from the printer. • Touch a metal object before starting operations to disperse any static electricity. • Do not touch the carriage shaft inside the printer. This may cause an operational error or a malfunction.

    Cleaning the Suction Cap When you see a message on the control panel, you need to clean the suction cap. You may also need to clean the suction cap if you experience difficulty cleaning nozzles after performing a nozzle check. Even if the message is not displayed, follow the steps here to clean the suction cap.
  • Page 82 6. If waste liquid has built up on the suction cap, remove it with the supplied plastic tweezers. Caution: Use only the supplied plastic tweezers. Be careful not to damage the suction cap. If the suction cap is damaged, air may leak and the print head may become dry or difficult to clean.
  • Page 83 7. Wipe the inside of the suction cap using a thin cleaning stick. Rotate the stick as you wipe. Caution: Make sure ink cleaner does not drip onto the anti-drying caps to the right of the suction cap. If any cleaner does drip, wipe it with a dry cleaning stick. If cleaner is left on the anti-drying caps, the print head nozzles could become clogged.

    Replacing the Head Cleaning Set Replace the head cleaning set when you see a message on the control panel. The printer warns you when the head cleaning set is running low based on the remaining amount of its service life as estimated from the print status, rather than detecting actual remaining amount of service life.
  • Page 87 1. Open the printer cover. 2. Unpack the new wiper unit and retain the packaging for disposing of the used wiper unit. 3. Put on the gloves supplied with the head cleaning set.
  • Page 88 4. Place your fingers into the groove at the back of the wiper unit and raise it slightly as shown. 5. Grasp the wiper unit as shown and lift it out of the printer.
