Order of Operations

The normal conventions for order of operations are followed by the calculator. Some
examples are shown below, both as they appear in the HOME view and after pressing
SHOW (see

Notes:
1. The hp 39g, hp 40g and hp 39g+ use Direct Algebraic entry order rather than
RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) when entering calculations. It is not possible to
use RPN.
2. When using brackets in your expressions to over-ride the normal order of
operations, you should only use the normal brackets ( and ). The other
brackets { } and [ ] you will see on the keyboard are used for particular
purposes.
For example, the { } brackets are used for lists and sets
while the [ ] brackets are used for matrices and vectors.
3. When raising a negative to a power you must use
brackets. For example, (-3)
