Troubleshooting
Symptom
Faxes cannot be received auto-
matically.
Black streaks appear through
the printout of the received fax.

Cause
Is the FK-503 set to manual re-
ception?
Is the memory full?
Is the telephone line connected
properly?
Did an alarm appear?
Has a wrong SUB been sent in
F-code from the sender side?
Is there a problem with the tele-
phone connection or with the
caller's fax machine?

Remedy
Set the machine to auto-
matic reception.
Load paper if it is empty,
and then print the faxes
stored in the memory.
Is the telephone line dis-
connected? Check the tel-
ephone line connection
and connect it if it is dis-
connected.
Follow the instructions
that appeared, and then
cancel the alarm.
When a wrong sub-ad-
dress is received with the
confidential RX user box
set, there may occurs a
communication error, thus
resulting in the reception
unavailable. Check the
sender side to see if the
sub-address is set.
Check that the machine
can make clean copies. If
no black streaks appear,
have the caller send the
fax again.
