    Preparations Unpacking Place the box on a steady, at surface. Lift the machine out of the box, remove the outer packaging and lift off the machine carrying case. Remove all outer packing material and the plastic bag. Slide off the accessory tray and remove the styrofoam inside.

    Pack away after sewing Switch the main switch off. Unplug the cord from the wall socket and then from the machine. Unplug the foot control cord from the machine. Wind the cord around the foot control for easy storage. Place all accessories in the accessory tray. Slide the tray on to the machine around the free arm.

    Vertical position Raise the spool pin to the vertical position. Slide on the large spool cap and place a felt pad under the thread spool. This is to prevent the thread from reeling off too fast. Do not place a spool cap on top of the spool pin as that would prevent the spool from rotating.

    Needle threader The needle threader allows you to thread the needle automatically. The needle must be in the up position to use the built-in needle threader. We also recommend lowering the presser foot. Use the handle to pull the needle threader all the way down.

    Winding from horizontal position Place an empty bobbin on the bobbin spindle, with the logo facing up. Use only the original PFAFF® bobbins approved for this model. Place the thread spool on the spool pin in horizontal position. Slide a spool cap tightly against the spool.

IDT™ system (integrated dual feed) For sewing any fabric precisely PFAFF® expression™ sewing machine provides the ideal solution: the integrated dual feed, IDT™ system. As on industrial machines, the IDT™ system feeds the fabric from the top and bottom at the same time.

    Needles The sewing machine needle plays an important role in successful sewing. Use only quality needles. We recommend needles of system 130/705H. The needle package included with your machine contains needles of the most frequently used sizes. Universal needle (B) Universal Needles have a slightly rounded point and come in a variety of sizes.

    Changing the needle Use the hole in the multi-purpose tool to hold the needle. Loosen the needle screw. Use the screw driver if necessary. Remove the needle.     Settings menu In the settings menu, you can override default settings and make manual adjustments to the machine settings, sound settings and screen settings. Open the menu by pressing the settings menu button and select the setting you wish to adjust by pressing the up and down arrow buttons on the wheel.

    Free-motion position When using the free-motion/darning foot, the presser foot needs to be in the free-motion position. Disengage the IDT™ system and lower the feed dogs. Attach the free-motion/darning foot and select a stitch. To engage the free-motion position, move the presser foot lift up and push the switch (A), on the underside of the lift, towards you until it snaps into place.

    Manual buttonhole To sew a manual buttonhole in four steps, use presser foot 5M. The rst column will be sewn backwards. Sew the rst column as long as you want the buttonhole. The graphic display will show the part and sewing direction of the buttonhole that is being sewn.

    Optional presser feet The limited edition accessory foot package is packed in the box with your PFAFF® expression™ sewing machine. The package contains the following optional presser feet: Couching/Braiding foot You can create beautiful trims when you use the Couching/Braiding Foot and your machine‘s decorative stitches to sew over yarn, cords, narrow satin ribbon, soutache braid, etc.

The beads will run smoothly through the groove under the foot while you sew for beautiful results. Snap on the Beading Foot. Thread your machine with invisible thread in the needle and regular sewing thread that matches the fabric in the bobbin.
  • Page 29 To make piping from your fabric: Cut bias or crosswise grain strips, wide enough to cover the cording plus seam allowances. Lay the cording on the wrong side of the fabric strip and wrap the fabric over the cord. Place the fabric and cord under the Piping Foot with the cord in the groove on the underside of the foot.

    Your sewing machine is equipped with two light bulbs. One is placed under the sewing head and one above the free arm. Light bulbs are available at your authorized PFAFF® dealer. Change the light bulbs as described below. Turn off the main switch.

    Cleaning under the bobbin area Clean the area under the bobbin case after sewing several projects or any time you notice an accumulation of lint in the bobbin case area. Remove the bobbin case holder (A), covering the front part of the bobbin case, by lifting it up. Remove the bobbin case (B) by lifting it up.

Make sure that the feed dogs are not lowered.

If you have followed this trouble shooting information and still have problems, take your sewing machine to your dealer. If there is a speci c problem, it is a great help to test sew with your thread on a scrap of your sewing fabric and bring it to your dealer.
