Install SIM Card and Battery After applying for an account with a mobile phone service provider, you will be provided a SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card. This card contains your mobile phone account details, contacts that can be stored and any additional services to which you have subscribed. You must install a SIM card before you can make or receive phone calls or use wireless data services.
Charging the Battery You must fully charge the battery before starting to use your Smartphone for the first time. Attach the converter to the AC adapter. Turning Your Smartphone On and Off Turning On Open the top cover. Press the End button . The backlight of the keypad will glow, and your Smartphone will display startup screens followed with a “beep” sound and then display the Home screen. If the service provider (or you) has set the PIN, you will be prompted to enter the PIN.
Installing ActiveSync You can use Microsoft ActiveSync technology to synchronize information on your desktop computer or a Microsoft Exchange® Server with the information on your Smartphone. ActiveSync compares the information on the Smartphone with the information on the desktop computer or the server and updates all locations, keeping you up-to-date with the most recent information.

Using a SD/MMC Card Your Smartphone has a SD/MMC card slot that accepts a SD (Secure Digital) or MMC (MultiMediaCard) storage card. You can purchase such cards if you need to expand the memory capacity of your Smartphone. To insert a SD/MMC card, insert the card with its label facing the front and the connector pointing to the slot of the Smartphone, as shown in the diagram.

Status Icons Status icons are displayed at the top of the Smartphone’s screen. The following table lists common status icons and their meanings. Icon Meaning Icon Meaning New e-mail or SMS. Battery level. New voice mail. Low battery. New instant message. Battery charging.
Programs Your Smartphone comes pre-installed with many programs that you can start using. The left soft key of the Home screen is Programs. When you pressing the Programs soft key, you will see the programs list. You can press the Up/Down button to select a program and then press the Action button to open the program.
Entering Text and Numbers You can enter text and numbers on your Smartphone using the keypad. You Smartphone supports three input modes for enter text and numbers: Multipress, T9 and Numeric. The Multipress and T9 modes are used for entering text and the Numeric mode is used for entering numbers. When you select a field that requires text or numeric entry, your Smartphone will automatically default to the appropriate input mode.
Entering Text in T9 Mode In T9 mode, just press the number keys that contain the letters you want to form a word. T9 will then analyze your keypresses and attempt to complete the word. For example: To enter the word “shoe,” press 7, 4, 6, 3. The following steps provide detailed instructions on using T9 input mode: Press and hold the Asterisk key ( ) until the T9 icon appears on the top of the screen.
Entering numbers in Numeric mode If a field permits a numerical entry only, such as phone number filed, your Smartphone will automatically default to Numeric mode. To switch to Numeric mode, press and hold the Asterisk key ( ) until the Numeric mode icon ) appears.
Securing the Smartphone You can customize the level of security you want to have on the Smartphone by locking the keypad, the entire Smartphone, or the SIM card. Locking the Keypad The keypad lock turns off the keypad functionality. This is a helpful feature if, for example, the Smartphone is turned on and in your pocket, and you want to prevent accidental keypresses.
To Lock the Smartphone After you turn on device lock, your Smartphone will automatically lock after a specified time of inactivity. You can also directly lock your Smartphone by selecting Device lock from the Quick List. The left soft key on the screen will display Unlock to indicate that your Smartphone is locked. N O T E You can still receive calls and make emergency calls when the Smartphone is locked.

To Unlock the SIM Card On the Home screen, press Programs soft key, select Settings, then Security, and then press the Action button. Select Disable SIM Lock, and then press the Action button. Enter the password (SIM card’s PIN1). Press the Done soft key. To Change the PIN On the Home screen, press Programs soft key, select Settings, then Security, and then press the Action button.

Making a call There are several ways to make a call. The easiest way is to dial the phone number. Alternately, you can dial a phone number from the numbers existing in your Smartphone; for example, the numbers you have saved, the calls you dialed or received recently, etc. Dialing a call On the Home screen, press the numbers on the keypad to enter the phone number.
You can store phone numbers on your SIM card. To call someone from the SIM card: On the Home screen, press Programs soft key, select MiTAC Apps, then MySIM, and then press the Action button. The program will load the phone number that stored in your SIM card.
Making a Call from Speed Dial Speed Dial enables you to quickly place a call without having to actually enter the number. On the Home screen, press and hold the number on the keypad that you have assigned as a speed dial for a number.
Responding to an Incoming Call When you have an incoming call, your Smartphone rings, flashes the LED and displays the name and phone number of the caller on the screen. (If the name of the caller is not in your Contacts list, only the caller’s phone number will be displayed.) Caller ID information is matched to a contact.
Managing More than One Call During a call, you can make or take a second call while putting the current call on hold. Then, you can choose to swap between the two callers or set up a conference call between all three parties. N O T E You may need to register for the “call waiting”...
In-call Options Adjusting the Phone Volume To adjust the volume during a call, simply press the Volume control on the side of your Smartphone. Speakerphone To use the speakerphone function as a hands-free solution, press and hold the Talk button The other party’s voice will be magnified and sent out through the speaker.
If the SIM card is not installed, the radio has been turned off, or the SIM card is invalid, the program will not load the phone numbers in the SIM card. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select MiTAC Apps, then MySIM, and then press the Action button.
Dialing a Number from MySIM After opening MySIM, select a number by pressing the Up/Down button, and then press the Talk button to dial the number. Add a Phone Number When adding a number, you can choose to store it in the SIM card or in Microsoft Contacts. After opening MySIM, press the New soft key.
MySIM Settings In MySIM, press the Menu soft key and select Settings to configure how the phone book list is displayed. The settings are described as below: MySIM Settings Function List priority To set the sort order of the list. None (default) displays all entries in alphabetic order of contact names.
MySIM Menu In MySIM, press the Menu soft key to access commands list. MySIM Menu Function Allows you to search a phone number by entering the name. Search Allows you to edit the selected entry. When completed, press Done soft Edit key to confirm the change, or press Cancel soft key to abort.
Call History Call History displays the last 25 calls you have made, received, and missed. Each entry in Call History contains the start time of the call, the duration, and the caller’s name, if available, and the caller’s number. Opening Call History On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Call History, and then press the Action button.
Speed Dial You can create speed dials to dial frequently-dialed phone numbers by simply pressing and holding one or two keys. You may choose Speed Dial entries from 2-99; Speed Dial 1 is reserved for voice mail access. N O T E “Speed Dial”...
Voice Mail Voice Mail is a service provided by your service provider. To use this service, you have to apply for it and obtain the phone number used for accessing the voice mail. Setting Up the Voice Mail Phone Number On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, then Telephony, and then press the Action button.
\IPSM\Application Data\Sounds folder (where several ring tones have been added by your Smartphone manufacturer) for MIDI files so you can select one of them. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select MiTAC Apps, then PhoneRing, and then press the Action button to open PhoneRing.
Playing Ring Tones When you selected a ring tone, the Smartphone will play it automatically. Alternately, you can open MIDI Player by pressing the Play soft key and then pressing the Action button to. N O T E MIDI Player can play the MIDI files in any location of your Smartphone, including the files you have downloaded, files attached in e-mails, files received via SMS or MMS, and files transferred by infrared.
3.10 International Call Entering an International Country Code International calls require a country code to be included in the phone number. On your Smartphone, the country code is separated from the rest of the number sequence by a plus (+) sign. If you are making an international call, press and hold the 0 key until the + sign appears.
3.11 Turning Off the Radio Under some situations (on the airplane, for example), you will need to turn off the radio of your Smartphone. After turning off the radio, you cannot use the phone function of your Smartphone, but you can still use other functions such as camera, Calendar, games, Media Player, etc. To turn off the radio: Press and hold the End button until the Quick List appears.
Setting UP Your Smartphone You can easily view and change settings to personalize the Smartphone for the way you work. For example, you can change the sounds or use your own sounds for ring tones, use your own image for the Home screen background, set up Call Forwarding and Call Waiting to manage your calls more efficiently, and more.
Settings (Page 1) On the Home Screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, and then press the Action button to access Settings, which contains two setting pages. To help you locate the item you want to set up, the following table shows the setting items and sub items on page 1, and then describe all the items in sequence.
Telephony On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, then Telephony, and then press the Action button to access the Telephony setting items. Telephony settings are primarily used to set options for calls you receive, such as Caller ID, Call Waiting, and Call Forwarding.
Sounds On the Home screen, press Programs soft key, select Settings, then Sound, and then press the Action button to access the Sounds setting items. Your Smartphone provides 30 ring tones (in WAV format) and additional MIDI files for you to select from.

Home Screen On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, then Home screen, and then press the Action button to access the Home screen settings. Home screen settings are used to change the Home screen layout, the color scheme, the background image, and the time delay before the Home screen appears when the Smartphone is idle.
Data Connections On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, then Data Connections, and then press the Action button to access the Data Connections settings. Data Connections settings enable you to set up Dial-up, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Proxy, and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) connections so you can connect to the Internet or your corporate network.

To Create a Dial-up Connection You need to set up a dial-up connection to connect directly to the Internet or to your corporate network. To create a dial-up connection to the Internet: Obtain the following information from your ISP: the number to dial up, the Domain name, the user name and password.

VPN Connection A VPN connection is used to access your corporate network using an existing Internet connection. Proxy Connection A proxy connection is used to access the Internet using an existing connection to your corporate network.

Date and Time On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, then Others, Connections, and then press the Action button to access the Date and Time settings. Date and Time settings enable you to change the local time zone and the current date and time, and to set the alarm.
Remove Programs N O T E Be careful when you remove programs. You cannot remove Microsoft core programs such as Calendar, Tasks, Inbox, Internet Explorer, etc. Remove Programs settings enable you to remove programs installed on the Smartphone. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Settings, then Others, Remove Programs, and then press the Action button.

Sending E-mail and SMS Messages There are several ways to send e-mail and SMS messages with your Smartphone. The most common way to send messages is from Inbox or from a Contacts card. Composing an E-mail or SMS Message You can choose to send from Inbox or Contacts (if Contacts contains the e-mail address or SMS number you want).
N O T E If you want to abort, press Menu soft key, select Cancel Compose. If you want to save the e-mail/SMS your are editing and continue later, press Menu soft key, select Postpone Message; when next time you continue editing, press Menu soft key in the main screen of Inbox, and select Show Folders.
Receiving E-mail and SMS Messages You can receive e-mail messages through Inbox synchronization or by connecting to your e-mail server. SMS messages that are sent to you instantly appear in Inbox, and are not synchronized. When new messages arrive, your Smartphone makes a sound to alert you and an envelope icon is shown on the top of the display.
Receiving Message Attachments You can download message attachments to your Smartphone. Attachments are displayed as a list of hyperlinks at the bottom of the e-mail message, and are preceded by an attachment icon. The text of the hyperlink contains the file name followed by the size of the attachment, thereby helping you to determine whether you want to download the attachment.
Managing Inbox All e-mail and SMS messages are stored in Inbox. By default, the most recently received messages are displayed at the top of the Inbox list. Using the menu options, you can quickly compose, delete, forward, and reply to messages. You can also customize Inbox settings to control the way you send, receive, and view messages.
Inbox Menu The following table lists Inbox menu options and their functions. Inbox menu option Function Opens a new message. New Massage Replies to an open or selected message. Reply Forward Forwards the selected message. Delete Deletes the selected message. Mark for Download Retrieves the entire e-mail message from the e-mail server the next time you connect.
Customizing Inbox Options You can optimize Inbox for the way you work. For example, you can change the way your messages are displayed, specify how you want your messages to be sorted, specify the volume and limit the size of messages you want to automatically download, change your synchronization schedule, and more.
SMS Messages You can send and receive SMS messages up to 160 characters in size over the Smartphone network. If an SMS message is longer, it will automatically be sent in chunks as several small SMS messages, and will then be unified as one SMS message after all of the small SMS messages have been received.
MSN Messenger You can use MSN® Messenger on your Smartphone to send instant messages. MSN Messenger on your Smartphone provides the same chat environment as MSN Messenger on your desktop computer. Features of this environment include: Sending and receiving instant messages. Seeing the status of others in your Messenger contacts list, or changing your own status (e.g., available, busy, out to lunch).

To Send an Instant Message Sign in to MSN Messenger. Select the person in MSN Messenger to whom you want to send an instant message, and press Send soft key. Enter your message, and you can select My Text from the Menu options to insert the predefined text.
Pocket Outlook Your Smartphone provides three Microsoft Pocket Outlook programs: Contacts, Calendar and Tasks. They help you manage your personal information and tasks. These programs are compatible with your desktop’s Microsoft Outlook. Using ActiveSync, you can easily keep your data on your Smartphone and desktop computer consistent.
Contacts You can think of Contacts as an address book, where you can store information about people and businesses you communicate with in contact cards. You can use Contacts to dial phone numbers and compose e-mail and SMS messages directly from a contact card. N O T E On your Smartphone, there cab be two kinds of independent contacts lists.

Contact Cards When you select a contact from the Contacts list and press the Action button, a contact card appears and displays all of the information that you have entered for the contact, such as the name of the person or business, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, birthday, and more. Creating a New Contact On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Contacts, and then press the Action button. If the right soft key on the Home screen is Contacts, you can also press the soft key. Press the Add soft key, and then press the Action button. Enter the information for the new contact.
Editing a Contact When you open a contact card, press the Edit soft key, and then press the Action button. When editing is completed, press the Done soft key. Selecting a Ring Tone for a Contact You can select different ring tones for different contacts to easily identify the caller. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Contacts, and then press the Action button.
Calling a Contact Using the Default Number On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Contacts, and then press the Action button. Calendar Calendar is the scheduling program on your Smartphone, where you can create and view appointments, and view your calendar by day, week, or month. Creating a New Appointment On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Calendar, and then press the Action button. Press the Menu soft key, select Add, and then press the Action button.
Deleting an Appointment On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Calendar, and then press the Action button. Select the appointment to delete, press the Menu soft key, select Delete, and then press the Action button. Viewing Your Schedule You can view your schedule using three different views: Agenda, Week, and Month.
N O T E If you press the Up/Down button and leave Week view, the hours last shown will be displayed the next time you return to Week view. To change settings for Week View, press the Menu soft key and select Options. Month View To view your schedule for the month , press the Menu soft key and select Month View.
Tasks A task is a personal or work-related project, assignment, or errand to track through completion. A task can occur once or repeatedly. A recurring task can repeat at regular intervals or repeat based on the date you mark the task complete. For example, you might want to pay a bill on the last Friday of every month, or get a haircut when one month has passed since your last haircut.
Viewing Tasks List On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select Tasks, and then press the Action button to view the Tasks list. You can start the following tasks from the Tasks list: Do this Mark a task as complete Select the task and press the Done soft key.
Voice Notes Voice Notes are used to create short voice recordings. Creating a Voice Note Hold the Smartphone near the sound source, like your mouth. Press the Record button on the Smartphone to go to All Notes. Or, you can press the Programs soft key on the Home screen, select Voice Note, and then press the Action button.
Beaming Information You can use the infrared port on your Smartphone to send and receive (beam) calendar appointments and contact cards between your Smartphone and another mobile device or a desktop computer that has an infrared port and supports VCards and VCal. ActiveSync Overview N O T E ActiveSync is already installed on your Smartphone. You need to install ActiveSync on your desktop computer. (For installation instructions, see section 1.6.) You can synchronize information on your desktop computer or a server with the information on your Smartphone.
Using ActiveSync Synchronizing information When you have set up a partnership between your Smartphone and your desktop computer, and completed the first synchronization (as described in section 1.6), you can start synchronizing from the Smartphone any time. To start synchronizing: Connect your Smartphone to the desktop computer or server.
Results of Synchronization By default, ActiveSync does not automatically synchronize all types of Outlook information. Use ActiveSync options to turn synchronization on and off for specific information types. Synchronizing Inbox When you select Inbox for synchronization in ActiveSync, e-mail messages are synchronized as part of the general synchronization process.
