    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Personal protective equipment WARNING! Most chain saw accidents happen when the chain touches the operator. You must use approved personal protective equipment whenever you use the machine. Personal protective equipment cannot eliminate the risk of injury but it will reduce the degree of injury if an accident does happen.
  • Page 5 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Chain brake and front hand guard Your chain saw is equipped with a chain brake that is designed to stop the chain immediately if you get a kickback. The chain brake reduces the risk of accidents, but only you can prevent them.

    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS • During felling your left hand grasps the front handle in such a way that it cannot activate the chain brake. In this position, i.e. when your left hand is in such a position that it cannot affect the movement of the front hand guard, the chain brake can only be activated by the inertia of the counterweight.

    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Muffler The muffler is designed to keep noise levels to a minimum and to direct exhaust fumes away from the user. WARNING! The exhaust fumes from the engine are hot and may contain sparks which can start a fire. Never start the machine indoors or near combustible material! In areas with a hot, dry climate there is a high risk of fires.

    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Muffler Never use a machine that has a faulty muffler. Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached to the machine. If the muffler on your machine is fitted with a spark arrestor mesh this must be cleaned regularly. A blocked mesh will cause the engine to overheat and may lead to serious damage.

In terms of kickback reduction alone, four different types of link are available.

Tighten the chain until it does not sag from the underside of the bar. • Use the combination spanner to tighten the bar nuts while lifting the tip of the bar at the same time.

  • Page 19 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Terms Cutting = General term for cutting through wood. Limbing = Cutting branches off a felled tree. Splitting = When the object you are cutting breaks off before the cut is complete. There are five important factors you should consider before making a cut: 1 Make sure the cutting equipment will not jam in the cut.

    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS The log is supported at both ends. There is a high risk that the chain will jam. Start by cutting from above (about 1/3 of the way through). Finish by cutting from below so that the two cuts meet. Limbing When limbing thick branches you should use the same approach as for cutting.

Your path of retreat should be roughly 135 degrees away from the intended felling direction.

    Fitting the bar and chain WARNING! Always wear gloves, when working with the chain. Check that the chain brake is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard towards the front handle. Remove the bar nuts and remove the clutch cover (chain brake).

    Mixture 1:50 (2%). • If HUSQVARNA two-stroke oil is not available, you may use another two-stroke oil of good quality that is intended for air cooled engines. Contact your dealer when selecting an oil.
  • Page 26 Fuelling WARNING! Taking the following precautions, will lessen the risk of fire: Do not smoke or place hot objects near fuel. Always shut off the engine before refuelling. When refuelling, open the fuel cap slowly so that any excess pressure is released gently. Tighten the fuel cap carefully after refuelling.

    Carburettor Function, Basic settings, Fine adjustment WARNING! Do not start the chain saw unless the bar, chain and clutch cover (chain brake) are fitted, otherwise the clutch may come loose and cause personal injury. Function • The carburettor governs the engine’s speed via the throttle control.
