    Preparation USING BATTERY POWER You can power the tape recorder with two AA batter- ies (not supplied). For the best performance and long- life, recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries. You can also use rechargeable nickel-cadmium bat- teries. These batteries and a battery charger are available at your local RadioShack store.

    Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use an earphone. • Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. • Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to per- manent hearing loss.

    USING FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND To rapidly advance or rewind the tape, press FAST-F . The button locks, and the tape REWIND/REV fast-forwards or rewinds to the end or until you press STOP USING CUE AND REVIEW Holding down during play allows you to FAST-F hear the tape playback at high speed to cue it and quickly locate a desired section on the tape.

    TAPE TIPS Restoring Tape Tension and Sound Quality After you play a tape several times, the tape might become tightly wound on the reels. This can cause playback sound quality to deteriorate. To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to the end of one side, then com- pletely rewind it.
