To enter a symbol, make sure you are in letter mode, then press

repeatedly until the symbol you want appears.
Here is the general method of entering letters:

Make sure the unit is in letter m()de (press
*
if not).

Press the button that contains the letter you want.

If you want to enter a space, press SPACE (Special Function
button).

Press the button repeatedly as needed until the letter you want
appears in the display. Then press any other button to enter the
letter.
For example, you would enter a lowercase letter k like this:

Press the

button until an "A" appears in the upper right corner,
then press the 5 button. The letter J appears in the display.

Press 5 four more times. The letter k appears in the display.

To enter the k, press the button of the next letter you want to enter,
or press the right cursor> (Special Function button).
