    NFORMATION Care Information Cleaning the Unit The GPSMAP 192C is constructed of high quality materials and does not require user maintenance other than cleaning. Clean the unit using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution and then wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that can damage plastic components.

    ASIC PERATION Initializing the Receiver The first time you turn on the GPSMAP 192C, the receiver must be given an opportunity to collect satellite data and establish its present location. To ensure proper initialization, the GPSMAP 192C is shipped from the factory in AutoLocate mode.
  • Page 8 “Ready 2D or 3D” during this process, it is not necessary to initialize the unit. The GPSMAP 192C now begins searching for the appropriate satellites for your region and should acquire a fix within a few minutes. When viewing the GPS tab on the Main Menu, a signal strength bar for each satellite in view appears on the bottom of the page, with the appropriate satellite number under each bar.

    Simulator Mode. While in Simulator Mode, a “Running Simulator” message appears after 2 minutes of inactivity. Keep in mind that the GPSMAP 192C does not track satellites in Simulator Mode, and this mode should never be used for actual navigation.

    SING AYPOINTS Creating and Using Waypoints The GPSMAP 192C stores up to 3,000 alphanumeric waypoints with a user-defined symbol, comments, and depth available for each waypoint. Waypoints can be created using two basic methods. ENTER/MARK Key—marks your present location, and provides options to select a map position or map item from the map display.

    If you are selecting a map item as the Go To destination, the GPSMAP 192C automatically uses the name of the map item, but the point is not stored in the waypoint list.

    Routes The last way to navigate to a destination is to create a user-defined route. The GPSMAP 192C allows you to create and store up to 50 reversible routes (numbered 1-50), with up to 254 waypoints each. Routes can be created and modified in two ways. The first method is to create the route using a map page.

    The chartplotter repeats the call properties received from the VHF radio on the chartplotter. The GPSMAP 192C requires input from a DSC enabled VHF radio to display position, and sound/display alerts from a Distress Call or Position Report. Conversely, the VHF radio requires input from a GPS to transmit position coordinates for a Distress Call or Position Report.

    Sky View Signal Strength Bars The status field indicates a 2D or 3D, when the GPSMAP 192C has collected the necessary data from satellites to calculate a fix.     The GPSMAP 192C must be properly installed according to the following instructions to get the best possible performance. If you have the GPSMAP 192C with the built-in internal bail mount antenna, you can skip this section and proceed to the next page. For units purchased with the remote antenna, follow the instructions below.

    3. After the GPSMAP 192C unit is installed, connect the cable to the antenna connector on the back of the display unit. Make sure that you turn the antenna cable connector 1/4 turn clockwise to lock the cable into place.

    Date, Time, and Current Location The GPS gets date and time information from the satellite’s on- board atomic clock. When the GPS receiver has achieved a 2D or 3D GPS location, the current location is displayed in the selected location format.

    Course—The course between the active from and to waypoints. Depth—the depth below transducer. This field is active only if a transducer is connected to the GPSMAP 192C. Distance (Dist)—The distance from the current location to a destination.
